Description
Château Palais Cardinal “La Réserve” Saint-Émilion Grand Cru 2020. NEW VINTAGE.
22% Cabernet Franc, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon, and the balance is Merlot.
Very dark in the glass with still some youthful purple to the rim. Billowing aromatics, floral and vigorously punchy ripe fruit bursts out riding on a complex cloud of oak notes and dark and savoury tarriness. Very precise and clean nose while the palate is similarly emphatic, firm and young. Will benefit from at least a few more years in bottle and then will continue to evolve and improve more slowly until at least 2030 and beyond. Saint-Émilion Grand Cru for the price of basic Saint-Émilion. A rare bargain from one of the most famous red wine regions on the planet: my advice is to make the most of it before they put their prices up in line with all the other Saint-Émilion Grand Crus out there. We are early on this wine but its fame will spread. Scored 92/100 by über-critic James Suckling.
Drink now to 2030+.
