Description
Château Lafleur du Roy, Pomerol from vintage 2018.
5% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Cabernet Franc, 85% Merlot, aged in oak for 15 months, of which 30% of the barrels are new for each vintage. Pomerol is the deep and sandy plateau to the west of Saint-Émilion and home to Bordeaux’s most prestigious Merlot-dominant wines, such as Château Pétrus. Lafleur du Roy is a boutique 4-hectare estate owned by the Dubost family.
Practically black in the glass! Plum, prune, fig, port, sultry oak and powerful earthiness. Decant! With some air-time – i.e. once decanted and left to breathe for half an hour – the dense fruit surges onto centre stage along with roast beef, charry oak and crispy duck skin, ripe and opulent, a brazen and swaggering Right Bank wine. Masses of body, acidity, gritty tannins, muscular and solid. Concentrated and old fashioned but surprisingly tight and elegant on the finish, lean and strong for the long run. Entering its prime right now.
