Domaine de Pignan’s Côtes-du-Rhône Rouge 2025 is southern Rhône generosity turned up to a thoroughly satisfying level. Grenache supplies the abundant fruit while Syrah contributes its unmistakable peppery, savoury character. The aromas are bold and inviting: ripe blackberry, plum compote and dried Mediterranean herbs, followed by cracked black pepper and a subtle suggestion of violets. There’s plenty of warmth and intensity here, but also the aromatic lift that keeps a powerful Rhône red interesting rather than merely imposing.
The palate is full-bodied, richly flavoured and confidently structured. Grenache brings its generous red berry character and herbal warmth, while Syrah introduces darker fruit, spice and a more savoury dimension. Juicy acidity provides welcome balance against the wine’s concentration, with fine-grained tannins giving shape to all that fruit. Black cherry and crushed peppercorns carry through a robust, lingering finish. With no oak involved, the emphasis remains firmly on the expressive partnership between these two classic Rhône varieties.
