Château Malartic-Lagravière 2022 is a fascinating Bordeaux from a notably hot vintage, yet what makes this wine so impressive is its unexpected freshness. This is a beautifully composed Pessac-Léognan Grand Cru Classé, delivering remarkable depth and complexity without losing its sense of proportion. The bouquet is richly expressive, with cassis, ripe berries and plums accompanied by delicate spice and a suggestion of violets. There’s an attractive mineral quality running through the fruit, giving the wine a distinctly refined, almost glossy aromatic character.
The palate is approaching full-bodied, with impressive concentration and a wonderfully complete sense of balance. Rich, polished fruit meets fine, chalky tannins, while a lively freshness provides definition and energy. The texture is glossy and luxurious without becoming heavy, and the mineral-edged fruit gives the wine a particularly sophisticated personality. Everything seems to fit together effortlessly, from the generous core of berries and cassis to the long, juicy finish. It’s an outstanding combination of power, precision and restraint.
