The Domaine de Pignan style can be summarised as the blatantly upfront delivery of the most powerful taste experience that the greatest terroirs of Châteauneuf-du-Pape can deliver, achieved through harvesting delicious grapes at maximum ripeness followed by intensive ageing in small format barrels (for this cuvée that means older 228-litre barriques). As a result, the Domaine de Pignan “Tradition” jumps from the glass with heady, meaty, rich, ripe, and indulgent fruit, fully bound together in a massive full frontal attack and follows up with a decadent palate of maximum volume, soft mouth-enveloping structure, and lingering flavour. It’s not rocket science but it’s the most enjoyable red wine style that I know of and there are very few places in the world that can nail it like Châteauneuf-du-Pape does. After all, they pretty much invented the style and it is one that Domaine de Pignan has made it their life’s work to perpetuate. Total crowd pleaser. Enjoy!
