Description
Château Lastours “Tradition”, red wine from Gaillac (between Bordeaux and the Med) from vintage 2020.
30% Shiraz, 20% Braucol, 24% Merlot, 16% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Duras.
Vibrant, dense, and dark ruby colour, intense fruit, black currant jam, strawberry, caramel, cinnamon, and chocolate hints, seductively intriguing, while the palate is perfectly pitched at the full end of medium-bodied, classical, and perfect in the everyday wine-drinking spectrum. Very Burgundian Pinot Noir-like in its aromas and general style and fantastic value-for-money.
Drink now to 2026.
13.8% ABV
23.10.2024. An update! We have been importing this same wine/vintage repeatedly over a 2-year period due to the extremely high level of positive feedback it has received. In that time the wine has, quite naturally, evolved from a primary and youthful fruit-driven wine (see original wine tasting description, above) to, now, a more complex and earthy late-middle aged wine and, for that reason, I would now recommend DECANTING it. I realise that you don’t often decant relatively inexpensive wine but this is a unique wine made with some unique Gaillac-only grape varieties in its mix. It still drinks wonderfully well and has plenty aromatically going on to explore and contemplate, if that is what you’re in the mood to do, but decanting it just helps it all to settle into place a little more clearly.
The winery has no more left and in the new year we will be receiving the new 2022 vintage, which looks like it will be another wine that we order repeatedly over the next year or two. I look forward to following its evolution too.
