Domaine Jean-Marc Bernhard Alsace Pinot Gris 2023.

Grape variety: 100% Pinot Gris
Harvest: Hand harvested
Alcohol: 14% ABV
Residual sugar: 5 g/L – dry
Vinification: Fermented with natural yeasts, followed by eight months on fine lees in a combination of large oak barrels and stainless-steel tanks.
Drinking window: Now–2030

Ripe apricot, pear and peach emerge immediately, followed by crystallised fruit and Pinot Gris’ wonderfully distinctive smoky edge. It’s expressive and generous without becoming blowsy – a wine with plenty to say from the first glass.

The palate is rich, full and rounded, with fine-lees ageing bringing texture and breadth, while a refreshing line of crispness keeps everything moving. At just 5 g/L residual sugar, it finishes dry, but that combination of ripe fruit and supple texture gives it an appealing generosity. There’s weight, freshness and a savoury, smoky persistence that makes this particularly satisfying at the table.

And Pinot Gris really is one of the great food wines. You could almost drink this through an entire menu. Try it with veal blanquette, fish in creamy sauces, mushrooms, terrines, substantial salads, white meats and smoked dishes. Better still, put its richness and freshness to work alongside the spice and aromatics of Thai, Indian or Chinese cooking.

A characterful, beautifully versatile Alsace Pinot Gris to enjoy now and through 2030.
