Vignoble Brisebarre Vouvray Sec “Amedée” 2019.

Wine Name: Vouvray Sec Cuvée Amédée 2019
Region: Vouvray, Loire Valley, France
Grape Variety: 100% Chenin Blanc
Alcohol Content: 13.0% ABV
Average Vine Age: 40 years

Vinification: Grapes were harvested at optimal ripeness, parcel by parcel. Slow fermentation occurred in 500L oak barrels, followed by 9 months of lees ageing with bâtonnage (stirring of the lees at the bottom of the barrel to impart creaminess and flavour development). Bottled at the estate with traditional cork and matured in tuffeau-stone (a bit like chalky pumice stone) cellars.

Cuvée Amédée 2019 is a rich and expansive Vouvray Sec, a testament to both mature Chenin Blanc vines and patient maturation. Its pale yellow robe with golden glints sets the stage for a fine and intricate nose—offering layers of saffron, gentle spice, lanolin, and baked quince.

On the palate, it impresses with breadth and precision. The texture is enveloping yet finely poised, with a vibrant backbone that carries flavours of poached pear, citrus confit, and subtle oak nuance. The saline, mineral-laced finish lingers gracefully, revealing the complexity and elegance that only time and terroir can bestow.

A gastronomic white with presence and polish, this wine excels with dishes such as pan-seared scallops, grilled prawns, veal blanquette, or lobster in saffron butter. It is drinking beautifully now but promises continued evolution over the next two decades. A distinguished cuvée that captures the soul of Vouvray’s limestone-rich hillsides.
