Domaine des Remizières Hermitage “Cuvée Émilie” ROUGE 2023. New to TOB.
The hill of Hermitage is a commanding presence that rises rapidly to a high point around 200m above the Rhône river, its higgledy piggledy terraces manipulated over the centuries to face straight down both barrels of the sun in the southern sky while remaining cooled and purified by the endlessly streaming wind and the tempering influence of the massive river beneath them. The result is vines that make a tiny amount of fruit of the very highest flavour potential and an exquisite sense of place. Hermitage is not just a place but a spiritual legend of the winemaking world.
Grape Variety: 100% Syrah
Alcohol Content: 14% ABV
Maturation: 18 months in 100% new French oak barrels.
The 2023 Hermitage Rouge from Domaine des Remizières is a commanding, cellar-worthy Syrah that encapsulates the grandeur of its terroir. Deep ruby in colour it bursts with aromas of blackberry compote, violets, black pepper, and smoked charcuterie, its aromatic aura airbrushed with puffs of cedar, dark chocolate, and graphite.
The palate is dense yet remarkably poised, with concentrated layers of blackcurrant, plum, and roasted espresso bean. Powerful tannins are finely textured, providing structure without aggression, while vibrant acidity ensures balance and long-term aging potential. The finish is resonant and persistent, leaving impressions of mineral tension and spicy depth.
A natural partner for grilled ribeye, duck breast with black cherry sauce, or truffled mushroom dishes, this Hermitage Rouge is both a showpiece and a study in finesse. While already impressive in its youth, it will reward patient cellaring over 15 or more years, developing further aromatic complexity and silky integration. Domaine des Remizières delivers a 2023 vintage of remarkable precision, depth, and vinous nobility.
