Thunevin-Calvet “L’Amourette” 2021. NEW vintage.
60% Mourvèdre and 40% Grenache from the Côtes du Roussillon Villages region in Catalonian France, not far from the Spanish frontier. 2021 is the greatest Roussillon vintage I have ever tasted and the quality of the year is clear to see in this wine which has explosive aromatic impact married to really serious structure that will make it a keeper. Buy some to drink and some to keep is my advice.
Black-ruby in the glass and overflowing with punchy blueberry jam fruit laced with Mourvèdre’s signature meatiness, tarry and wild, poignantly aromatic, intense and deep, fruity and savoury at the same time, while the palate is a disguised monster, firmly tannic, vigorous and tight, tasting freshly like Bordeaux but this is actually a 15% whopper and it will keep for 15 years or more.
