Did you know that Sancerre is also one of France’s top regions for Pinot Noir? Like all the best Pinot, this wine isn’t just about fruit, though it certainly has high aromatic impact and seductive appeal, but the fruit has dissolved into a cloud of earthy pinosity, spicy and evocative, nuanced with meaty/mushroom-y/smoky notes, bark and mulch, cracked rock and smoky duck, ozone and cloves, while the palate is suave, delicately built, neatly cut, and modestly assertive. It’s not trying to be Burgundy but Pinot Noir from Sancerre – like this one – certainly deserves to be just as famous.
