Grenache/Shiraz/Mourvèdre blend.
Screams CNDP!!! Massive cherry jam nose, rich, ripe, dark, deep, and very pure fruit, fruit cake, molasses, marzipan notes, rose petals, and leather, while the palate is very full but firms up through the finish with some seriously good gripping tannins, quite chewy at the end, and some nice smoky mineral notes come through later on the nose too, possibly from the 6 months of maturation in wooden vats used for this wine. Classy, classic, and indulgent comfort-wine. Unadorned CNDP running full bore. Made by Stéphan, the grandson of the estate’s founder Juliette Avril and one of the most welcoming hosts if you’re ever passing through CNDP.
