Some would say it’s the effect of climate change but others would just say that recent vintages of Pinot Noir from Sancerre are really stamping their claim to greatness on the world thanks to their warmth and decadent fruit expression, all without losing any of this grape variety’s intrinsic elegance or hallmark aromatics. This is Domaine de La Villaudière’s flagship Pinot and it smashes the bang-for-buck factor out of the park! The nose is seductive and layered with intense black berry fruit, cherry liqueur and oodles of jam up front, but diving deeper into the perfume cloud you’ll find exotic, musky, truffle-like meatiness, rich, spicy and nuanced, and then splash down into a silky and copiously flavoured palate that offers up bursts of cedar and graphite, chocolate and roast meat pan juices. The palate is full and graceful, poised and precise, textured and smooth. A silky gem and complete bargain when compared to red Burgundy of the same price. 12 cases available in total.
