Domaine Sergent “Les Noyers” Madiran 2024

Producer: Domaine Sergent
Region: Madiran AOC, South West France (foothills of the Pyrenees)
Grape Variety: 100% Tannat
Alcohol (ABV): 13%

Winemaking:
Matured for 12 months in French oak barrels, including a portion of new oak, lending both structure and aromatic complexity.

Tasting Note:
A very tight and young wine, “Les Noyers” 2024 pours an inky, almost opaque blackcurrant hue, immediately signalling its depth and vibrant youthfulness. The nose is very punchy, raw, clean and complex, revealing layers of dark berry fruit intertwined with earthy undertones, vanilla, and subtle oak spice. Notes of rhubarb, custard, and blueberries add intrigue, while the overall profile remains savoury and composed rather than overtly sweet.

On the palate, this is a very sinuous young Madiran. The structure is formidable, with lashings of fine, tightly woven tannins that provide both grip and elegance. Despite its density, there is a “sweet-spot” drinkability—balanced by a refreshing acidity that lifts and defines the wine’s powerful core. Dark fruits, spice, and earthy complexity persist through a long, authoritative finish.

A serious cellaring wine with exceptional potential, it will evolve beautifully through to 2045 and beyond. Ideal with robust dishes such as braised beef, venison, Cassoulet, Boeuf Bourguignon, or slow-cooked lamb, this is Madiran at its most profound and age-worthy. Start drinking this from, say, 2030 onwards.
