Camille Cayran Châteauneuf-du-Pape Rouge 2024.

Camille Cayran Châteauneuf-du-Pape Rouge 2024

Producer: Camille Cayran
Region: Châteauneuf-du-Pape AOC, Southern Rhône Valley, France
Grape Variety: 70% Grenache, 30% Syrah, Mourvèdre, and other minority CNDP varieties.
Alcohol (ABV): 15%

Winemaking:
Sourced from select parcels across the famed galet-strewn vineyards of Châteauneuf-du-Pape, this cuvée is crafted to highlight purity of fruit and terroir expression. The Grenache is vinified primarily in concrete to preserve its radiant fruit character, while Syrah and Mourvèdre are fermented in stainless steel for structure and aromatic precision. Gentle extraction techniques ensure finesse, and the wine is then matured for 12 months in large, seasoned oak foudres, allowing complexity to build without masking the wine’s natural luminosity.

Tasting Note:
A strikingly expressive Châteauneuf-du-Pape, the 2024 release from Camille Cayran is defined by its luminously pure fruit—radiating from the glass like a beacon of sensory excitement. The nose is immediate and captivating, bursting with vivid aromas of ripe raspberry, wild strawberry, and red cherry, layered with hints of Provençal herbs, white pepper, and a touch of warm spice. There is a remarkable clarity here, as if each aromatic note is illuminated from within.

On the palate, the wine is generous yet beautifully poised, with a silky, flowing texture that carries waves of bright red and dark fruits. Grenache brings plushness and warmth, while Syrah and Mourvèdre add depth, spice, and structure. The tannins are fine and polished, supporting a core of vibrant acidity that keeps the wine lifted and energetic.

The finish is long, glowing, and effortlessly balanced, echoing with pure fruit and subtle garrigue notes. Drinking wonderfully now yet capable of evolving through to 2035, this is a captivating and modern expression of Châteauneuf-du-Pape—both hedonistic and precise.

Shines with classic Rhône pairings such as rosemary-studded roast lamb, slow-cooked shoulder of pork, or herb-crusted rack of lamb, where the wine’s vibrant fruit cuts through richness while echoing savoury, herbal notes.

It’s equally compelling with grilled meats—think chargrilled ribeye, lamb cutlets, or duck breast—where the subtle spice and fine tannins complement caramelised flavours beautifully. For something more rustic, pair with Provençal dishes such as ratatouille or daube de boeuf, allowing the wine’s garrigue character to mirror the herbs in the dish.

Cheese-wise, opt for semi-hard and aged varieties like Comté or Tomme, which balance the wine’s fruit intensity without overwhelming it.
