Domaine de Pignan Châteauneuf-du-Pape “Coralie et Floriane” 2022. NEW.

You can call this a “show-off” wine if you like but, if you’ve got something good then you might as well flaunt it! So for their flagship wine Domaine de Pignan opted for the “max-power” grape variety blend of one third each of Grenache/Shiraz/Mourvèdre, picked it at maximum ripeness, and sent it to age in new oak barriques. I normally select wines to import that are fully ready to drink now, and you certainly won’t be disappointed if you decide to crack one of these early, but giving this 2022 a few years to settle down, i.e. for its armour of oak to morph into some softer clothing, might not be a bad idea. It would be hard to find the superlatives that adequately describe the steam-rolling taste experience that this wine currently offers, but suffice to say that it’s a genuinely stunning red that scores a ten in every dimension. Will develop very nicely over the next ten years, perhaps peaking around 2030 if stored correctly. The Krakatoa of reds. Boom!

15.5% ABV.
