A hidden gem from the fringes of Margaux, the 2019 “Z” Bordeaux Rouge from Vignobles des Quatre Vents overdelivers in every way. Despite its modest Bordeaux AOC classification, this wine speaks clearly of its noble origins with each glass. Now hitting its stride at seven years of age, it showcases a plush core of blackberry compote, and ripe plum, layered with notes of cinnamon, cedar, leather, and the telltale minerality of Margaux’s gravel-clay soils. The palate is beautifully evolved—rounded and supple yet retaining impressive depth and structure, with earthy undertones and a subtle oak-spiced lift on the finish.
This is a wine of generosity and finesse, offering a taste experience far above its classification. Drink now to 2030 for peak enjoyment, though it may surprise with even longer cellaring. Ideal with roast lamb, duck confit, or wild mushroom risotto. An exceptional value Bordeaux that punches well above its weight.
This must be about the third shipment of this exact same wine that I have brought in but the feedback is so good (this wine gets fan mail!) that I took up the winery’s offer of snagging the last 40 cases of it. Every subsequent vintage is already sold out (we have imported most of them) and so the next release will be the “Z” 2025 that is due for release in April 2027.
Post arrival price will be $36.95
Today’s pre-departure price is $26.95 per bottle.
This wine is part of the shipment scheduled to arrive in November/December 2026. Dispatch to you will be organised as soon as it has cleared Australian customs.
