Tasting Note:
A profound expression of old-vine Châteauneuf-du-Pape, the 2022 “Vieilles Vignes” from Domaine du Galet des Papes is sourced from 80 to 100-year-old vines that thrive among the heat-retaining galets roulés. This vintage offers a commanding aromatic profile of ripe black cherry, raspberry compote, and garrigue, enriched by hints of smoked meat, licorice, and black pepper. Full-bodied and densely layered, the palate reveals a plush yet structured texture, with fine-grained tannins and a deep mineral core. A backbone of lively acidity keeps the wine vibrant and focused, culminating in a long, savoury finish redolent of cocoa, dried thyme, and earth.

This wine is an outstanding companion to slow-roasted lamb, duck breast with a fig reduction, or truffle-infused mushroom dishes. Aged Comté or mature Manchego also make excellent pairings. Designed to age gracefully, this cuvée promises increasing elegance and complexity through 2037. A true flagship of the domaine, marrying richness, finesse, and terroir in equal measure.
