85% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Franc, 5% Cabernet Sauvignon. From 40-year-old vines grown on the estate of Ch. Lafleur du Roy. 100% barrel aged of which 30% are new barrels each year.
Pomerol can be extravagantly fruity and rich in oak – genuinely “heavy” – but 2022 was such a great year because of its elegance and restraint but still within the context of optimum maturity.
Black like black currant jam in the glass and erupting with punchy, crisply defined fruit, cologne-like woodiness, vibrant youthfulness, black currants and stone, graphite pencil shavings, leaf tobacco and toasty vanilla, while the palate is at the elegant end of medium-bodied, smoothly structured, finely proportioned and long. Classical style but full and round in the mouth. A really beautiful Pomerol with medium to long term prospects.
