It’s no secret that the Ardèche grows the best Chardonnay outside of Burgundy and Champagne, and so it makes sense that the Pinot Noir should be pretty good too but, for the money, this is outrageously good value. The fruit quality has always been there in the past when I have tried this wine but the missing piece of the puzzle – barrel maturation – has been filled and the wine is now complete. It’s incredible how oak influence can transform a wine! It’s not Romanée-Conti but this is Pinot Noir that would stand tall (taller than many!) among a tasting of most basic red Burgundies. Real deal Pinot Noir for a bargain price.
Strong dark fruit, black cherry and damsons, earthy pinosity and oak spice, while the palate is mouth-filling, soft, generous, mellow and dangerously drinkable!
