Château La Rose Perrière 2019 is a cracking example of what makes Lussac-Saint-Émilion such an interesting hunting ground for Bordeaux lovers. There’s an impressive depth of ripe fruit here, with black cherry, plum and wild dark blackberries providing a generous opening statement. But it’s the supporting cast that really captures the imagination. Cedar, violets, tobacco, dark chocolate and liquorice emerge alongside a delicate suggestion of spicy, smoky oak and bacon. The result is a richly layered, aromatic Bordeaux with plenty of personality.
The palate is juicy, concentrated and beautifully polished, with a substantial core of fruit supported by round, finely integrated tannins. There’s genuine structural density, yet the texture remains remarkably smooth and inviting. Dark fruit richness is balanced by an intriguing mineral character, culminating in a distinctive salty nuance on the finish. The new oak contributes spice and depth without distracting from the wine’s underlying fruit. It’s a satisfying combination of generosity, refinement and savoury interest.
Drinking well now and recommended through to 2035+. Try it with roast duck, herb-crusted lamb or a rich mushroom casserole. A seriously enjoyable Bordeaux from an appellation well worth discovering if you don’t know it already.
