The vineyards lie beneath the famous Dentelles de Montmirail, overlooking the Rhône Valley, on stony red-clay soils and areas of scree. It is an evocative combination, and the wine captures that meeting of ripe fruit and more rugged southern Rhône character.
Old-vine Grenache dominates this blend and gives the wine a wonderfully expressive opening: pristine red cherry and wild blackberry, followed by darker liquorice, tar and scorched-earth notes, while the Syrah and Mourvèdre add spice and tarriness. Dried herbs, aged leather and antique wood add a more developed, savoury edge.
Despite 14.5% alcohol, the wine remains light on its feet, with medium-plus body, vivid acidity and silky tannins. Minimal oak allows its natural clarity and freshness to remain centre stage. There is power here, certainly, but finesse is equally important; neither side overwhelms the other. That tension makes this an unusually versatile expression and gives the wine plenty of personality without sacrificing drinkability.
Drink now through 2034 and serve at around 16°C with grilled lamb, duck with lentils or herbed roast vegetables. Certified organic, food-friendly and beautifully poised between power and finesse, it is southern Rhône red with real individuality.
