Domaine de l’Herbe Sainte “Artémisia” Syrah 2020, Pays d’Oc.
Grape Variety: 100% Syrah
Alcohol Content: 14.5% ABV
Maturation: Aged in French oak to enhance complexity, integrate tannins and complement the wine’s naturally rich Syrah character.
The Domaine de l’Herbe Sainte “Artémisia” Syrah 2020 is a strikingly refined expression of old-world Syrah, combining the warmth of the Languedoc with remarkable freshness, elegance and complexity. Deep ruby in colour, it opens with an intensely aromatic bouquet of cassis, blackberry and black plum, entwined with classic notes of wild garrigue, cracked black pepper, violet and subtle smoky oak. As the wine unfolds, hints of liquorice, dark chocolate and warm spice emerge, leading into a generous, beautifully textured palate. Rich and full-bodied, it delivers succulent dark berry fruit framed by silky, perfectly integrated tannins, while vibrant acidity brings lift and precision. The finish is exceptionally long and distinctive, lingering with refreshing notes of eucalyptus, mint and savoury herbs that leave an unforgettable impression.
This is a Syrah of real pedigree, equally suited to slow-roasted lamb, grilled ribeye, venison, cassoulet or mature hard cheeses. Drinking superbly now after decanting, it also possesses the balance and structure to continue evolving gracefully over the next 8–10 years, gaining further complexity and nuance with time in the cellar.
Awards & Accolades: Gold Medal – Decanter 2023 • Gold Medal – Concours des Grands Vins de France de Mâcon 2022 • Gold Medal – Concours des Vins des Vignerons Indépendants 2022 • 2 Stars (out of a maximum of 3, like the Michelin guide for restaurants a 2* rating is exceptionally high from the Guide Hachette) – Guide Hachette des Vins 2023, which described it as “simply irresistible”, praising its powerful aromas of cassis and garrigue, savoury richness, beautifully integrated tannins and remarkably fresh, lingering finish marked by eucalyptus and menthol.
