Domaine Bègue-Mathiot Petit Chablis 2023. New to TOB.
100% Chardonnay.
Most Chablis producers have large quantities of Petit Chablis available but with Domaine Bègue-Mathiot it is a sign of the strength of the relationship that TOB has forged with them in the last year that when I met with them in France in February they asked me (on the side) if we would like a small allocation of their Petit Chablis that is in extremely limited supply! They have so little of it that they had never even mentioned it to me on previous meetings.
The wine is aromatically extrovert with ripe Chardonnay notes reminiscent of “Starburst” sweets, lemon cheesecake, and a palate that is classically Chablis in its fresh vivacity. It was with pleasure that I took them up on the offer of a maximum of 25 cases of this wine with the option to take another 25 later in the year, should any remain.
