About
The story of TOB
FROM THE CHÂTEAU TO YOUR DOOR.
The Other Bordeaux isn’t trying to be Australia’s biggest wine retailer.
Quite the opposite. I believe the best wine buying happens when you know exactly what you’re looking for.
I only import French wine.
Always have. Always will.
Not because Italy, Spain or Australia don’t make wonderful wines, but because I’d rather become exceptional at one thing than average at everything. That’s why I’ve spent my life travelling through France, meeting family growers, tasting thousands of wines and buying direct from producers who deserve a wider audience in Australia.
From France to your door.
Buying direct changes everything.
By buying direct from family-owned producers and importing the wines myself, I remove the middlemen and offer all wines at importer rather than traditional retail prices.
Better wine. Better value. No costly middlemen.
But The Other Bordeaux is about much more than just price.
Today I work almost exclusively with independent family wineries—many of whom have farmed the same vineyards for generations. These aren’t global brands with enormous marketing budgets. They’re real people whose names you’ll often find on the label, making wines that proudly represent where they come from. When you buy from The Other Bordeaux you’re not just buying another bottle of wine. You’re also supporting families, traditions and the craftsmanship that we need to survive.
And people often ask how an English kid ended up importing French wine into Australia.
The answer begins with an eight-year-old making homemade wine from grapes collected from glasshouses around London and Norfolk. That hobby became an obsession that led to an unexpected family connection to Châteaufort de Roquetaillade in Bordeaux in 1998. That first vintage changed my life. Over the following two decades I worked in vineyards and wineries throughout Bordeaux, Burgundy, the Loire, Roussillon, Tasmania, the Adelaide Hills and New South Wales.
Having dual British-Australian citizenship, in 2002 I moved to Australia to study Oenology (Wine Science) at the University of Adelaide, giving me a solid scientific understanding of winegrowing.
And in 2010 I founded The Other Bordeaux, initially importing wines from Châteaufort de Roquetaillade before gradually building relationships with other outstanding family producers across France.
Today those relationships allow me to bring exceptional French wines directly to Australian customers—without the traditional layers of wholesalers and retailers.
But The Other Bordeaux isn’t for everyone.
If you’re looking for every wine from every country, supermarket specials or the latest Penfolds releases, then there are plenty of traditional retailers who can help with that.
But if you believe that focus creates expertise… If you enjoy discovering family producers… If you appreciate buying direct from the importer at exceptional value… If you want to benefit from my 28 years of non-stop research…
Then you’ve found just your people.
Welcome to The Other Bordeaux.
From France to your door.
