Description
Château Lastours “Cuvée du Pigeonnier”, red wine from Gaillac, vintage 2020.
40% Braucol, 40% Shiraz, 20% Cabernet Sauvignon.
The flagship wine of Ch. Lastours and a lighthouse effort by the winemaking standards of any French wine region but, being from relatively little-known Gaillac, the value-for-money here is off-the-chart.
Vibrant crimson-purple, luminous at the edge, extremely intense fruit concentration and laser-focused definition, aromatic depth and power glistening like a brand new sportscar, while the palate is sublime with gourmet structure, sleek and polished and, once again from Lastours, it’s difficult to understand how they can achieve such indulgent drinkability at just 13% alcohol. A truly magical balance is achieved here somehow. A tad more oak to the nose than in the entry level wines and some char-y bitter-sweetness on the palate, but this is still very young and has so many years of cellar-growth and evolution ahead of it.
