50% Grenache, 25% Shiraz, 25% Carignan. Côtes-du-Rhône VILLAGES is a quality level ABOVE regular Côtes-du-Rhône.
There is a distance of a metre or two between the end of Maucoil’s Châteauneuf-du-Pape vineyards and the start of the block that gives this wine and the proximity is clear in the glass: Very dark Grenache/CNDP-type fruit, blackberries, Cherry Ripe chocolate bars, cordial-like fruit intensity with some earthy openness and complexity but pure and true, while the palate is dry and serious with tannin and claret-like gravitas and poise. Full, bold, complete. This is a complete over-performer for the price.
