Description
Lavau Gigondas red 2019. NEW to TOB.
50% Grenache, 40% Shiraz, 10% Mourvèdre.
I went into the tasting at Lavau determined not to buy anything other than the new vintage of their Côtes-du-Rhône (wine #1, above) but one sniff and taste of this Gigondas and I caved in completely: roast figs, saucisson, thyme and rosemary, sweet ripe plums, rose petals, marmalade, fresh smooshed blackberries, polished antique furniture, oak and cigars, then a palate that is full but refined, firm with a tannin backbone, mouth-coating, satisfying, and long. Total doozy of a wine and quintessential Gigondas.
