Description
Château Maucoil “Privilège” Châteauneuf-du-Pape red 2017.
Made from a blend of Grenache, Syrah, Mourvèdre, Cinsault, Clairette et Bourboulenc.
This doesn’t attempt to out-gun wine #6 (the regular Châteauneuf-du-Pape, built for raw power and impact) but aims instead to break off on a parabolic tangent to it, jettisoning all the woody/fruity puppy fat to leave a pristine sculpture of ancient old vine Grenache, lifted and pure, a supersonic rocket of perfume, high-note cherries, strawberry jam, and cassis, followed by smoking plumes of spice, herbs, garrigue, and the finest and lightest halo of wood smoke and smoked meats. The palate is finesse itself, full but lithe and long, tightly strung with energetic tannin to see this through for the long term.
Only 120 bottles available.
