Description
#13. Château La Dominique, Saint-Émilion Grand Cru 2018. NEW TO TOB.
7 bottles left.
85% Merlot, 12% Cabernet Franc, 3% Cabernet Sauvignon. 14 months in oak, of which half were new barrels.La Dominique is one of my all-time favourite Bordeaux vineyards and helped ignite my desire to enter the wine world on a professional basis in the early 1990s. The most gorgeously upfront and loveable wine with classically chiselled pedigree and style.
95-96/100 score and notes from James Suckling:
“Incredibly well integrated, ripe fruit and tannins that melt into the wine. Precise and marvellously ripe fruit.”
And 92+ by Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate: “Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2018 La Dominique is a little broody, offering up damp soil, pencil lead, wild fungi and charcoal scents over a core of plum preserves and stewed blackberries. The medium to full-bodied palate delivers muscular black and blue fruit preserves, supported by ripe, rounded tannins and just enough freshness, finishing earthy. It opened considerably after a few hours, contributing exotic spice and floral undertones. Drink 2025-2040
